Myofascial Release (MFR) is a specialised treatment that releases restrictions within the connective tissue also known as Fascia. The Fascia tissue is woven around every muscle, bone, organ, artery and vein in the body. It wraps around these tissue and has an affect on every part of the body. Put simply it is the glue that binds us together. Myofascial Release is a form of soft tissue therapy used to treat adhesions in fascia that is adjacent to the muscle and its surrounding connective tissues. These adhesions cause lack of sliding tissues, resulting in pain and restriction of movement.
Motion is lotion
This technique specifically works on connective tissue adhesions. If you can imagine a piece of steak, the connective tissue is the thin white layers in the muscle. It binds everything together, your muscles, bones, skins and tendons. If you have a massage that works solely on your muscles and your fascia is still bound up, it is likely that you will feel good immediately after the massage but the next day, you may be back to feeling the same because the restriction wasn’t really addressed.
This type of massage will assist your body in holding your chiropractic adjustments.
